AGIP Conducts Major IP Infringement Raid in India

02-Feb-2010

MAHARASHTRA – Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) India Office has recently conducted a major raid to seize counterfeit luxury goods worth a quarter of a million Dollars in Maharashtra.

AGIP India Office Executive Director Khalid Odeh stressed that it was a very successful raid.

"The raid which passed through consistent and diligent preparation was conducted on behalf of our client Al-Rehab Modern Factory for Perfumes," he said.

"The counterfeit goods were destined to reach South African countries and inundate markets with low quality products that look amazingly close to originals," he added.

The raid helped in capturing infringers and now they are behind bars facing criminal prosecution under Indian laws.

"We are happy and satisfied with the joint work we did with the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Legal (TAG-Legal) Department and the Maharashtra police and we will continue to protect our clients' interest around the world," Odeh stated.

According to experts, modern technology has created an ideal market for counterfeit goods in India and serious steps have been taken by government to stop counterfeiters who face fines and legal actions if caught.
