UAE Issues New Resolution on Collection of TM Publication and Registration Fees

ABU DHABI - UAE Minister of Economy Eng. Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri issued on November 17, 2009 Ministerial Resolution No. (541) of 2009, amending the Ministerial Resolution No. (360) of 2009, regarding the collection of trademarks publication and registration fees.According to the Ministerial Resolution No. 541, the following has been decided:Article 1The fees of publishing the trademark in the special bulletin issued by the Ministry and the fees for the registration of a trademark or a group of marks for goods, products or services in a certain class shall be collected within 30 days of the applicant being notified of accepting the filing of the application.Article 2The trademarks directorate shall notify the applicant of the content of Article (1) of this resolution upon accepting the filing of the application. Article 3The applicant may, at any time before the elapse of the 30 day legal opposition period from the date of the last publication according to Article (14) of the Federal Law No. (37) of 1992 and amendments thereto, recover the registration fees of trademarks by applying in writing to the Ministry to recover such fees. Article 5Articles (1) and (3) of Ministerial Resolution No. (360) of 2009 shall be cancelled. Article 6This resolution shall be published in the official gazette and shall be effective as of the date of issuance.
