The Cyprus Parliament has recently amended the country’s Trademarks Law Cap. 268. The new Law No. 176(1)/2000, came into force on the 29th December 2000 and aims at modernizing the existing Trademark Law as well as bringing it into line with European trade marks legislation.
Although not yet a full member state of the European Union, Cyprus is in an advanced stage of negotiations for accession.
The most important changes brought about by the new legislation relate to broadening the criteria for the registration of a trademark and the enlargement of the scope of protection of a registered trademark.
