New Designs and Industrial Models Implementing Regulations (No.52) Issued

In accordance with Article No.18 of the Designs and Industrial Models Law No.14 of the Year 2000, new implementing regulations of the Law were issued on May 16, 2002, in Jordan. According to the new Regulations, designs are protectable through registration with the Patent Office. Such registration is effected without any novelty examination at the applicant's responsibility. A design registration is valid for fifteen years starting from the date of filing the application or from the priority date. A novelty declaration is no more required. There is no provision in the new Regulations for mandatory working with respect to designs. Any infringement or unauthorized use of a registered design is punishable under the Designs Law in Jordan.
