QRCE Announces the “Made in Jordan” Competition 2009 Winners

AMMAN - The award ceremony of the “Made in Jordan” Competition (MIJC), organized by Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship (QRCE), was held on July 29, 2009 under the patronage of Jordan Minister of Industry and Trade Eng. Amer Hadidi at Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT) headquarters.

In his opening remarks, the Minister noted that the launch of this award will result in enhancing the protection of Intellectual Property (IP) and boosting self-confidence towards finding solutions to encounter challenges that confront the national industry due to economic production policies.

“The government has signed a number of bilateral agreements in order to facilitate market access, develop programs to support the industrial sector and integrate the national economy into the global one,” he stated.

On the other hand, the Executive Director of QRCE Mr. Mohammad Khawaja pointed out that the “Made in Jordan” award illustrates the Center’s belief in the role of the educational institutions in developing the industrial sector.

“The competition this year has witnessed the participation of 200 projects and a total of 350 entrants from the various Jordanian universities, and public research centers,” he added.

“The Made in Jordan competition aims at extracting innovations in the Kingdom by channeling research in local universities towards developing industrial prototypes that solve real technological, engineering, and /or scientific problems in the region,” he highlighted.

The awards were distributed as follows:

In the professional level category, Dr. Ismaiel Nabhan and Mahmoud Fares won the first place; Dr. Fahed Awad was awarded second place and Engineers Hisham Shaban and Mazen Salman were granted the third place.

While in the postgraduate level category, the winners were Zaid Bataineh, Sharaf Obiedat and Rami Hailat for the first place, Wajdi Masaad went second place and Noor Al Haj Abdallah and Sumaya Durgham received the third place.

As for the undergraduate level category, the first place award was granted to Yehia Makableh and Mohammad Issa, the second place went to Hussam Khasawneh and Wasim Abumazen, the third place winners were Sarah Khalid and Dana Al Kilani.

Participants in the award attended a number of training courses in the different fields of management, Intellectual Property, marketing, project design, negotiation skills in addition to others.

The “Made in Jordan” Competition is one of a series of national competitions in different Arab countries which are all branched from “Made in Arab World” competition organized by the Arab Science and Technology Foundation. The winners from these national competitions on a pan- Arab level in Egypt in October 2009.
