The Syrian Arab Republic Ratifies WIPO’s PCT
01-May-2003
On March 26, 2003, the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR) became the 120th Contracting State of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) when it deposited its instrument of ratification at WIPO. The treaty will enter into force for the SAR on the 26th of June.
The ratification by SAR means that in any international application filed on or after the 26th of June, applicants designate Syria (country code: SY). It also means that nationals and residents of the SAR may themselves file PCT applications as of that date. As SAR will be bound by Chapter II of the Treaty, it may also be elected for the purpose of international preliminary examination.
