UAE Ministry of Economy Decreases Period for Collecting TM Fees

ABU DHABI – The Minister of Economy at the United Arab Emirates HE Engineer Sultan Bin Saeed AL Mansouri issued on July 1, 2009 the ministerial decision No. 360 for the year 2009 regarding the collection of trademarks’ publications and registration fees.

According to the decision, the trademarks’ publication fees shall be collected in thirty days of informing the applicant of accepting the registration of his/her application.

Moreover, and in case of any additions or amendments made to the trademark in a way that does not affect or change its essence, the publication fees shall be collected also within thirty days of informing the applicant of accepting the amendments or additions.

The ministerial decision also entails that the applicant, of an application concerning a single trademark or collective marks   of goods, products or services falling in one specific class, shall pay the due registration fees within 30 days starting from the day in which the opposition period expires, or from the date in which the said applicant is notified about the decision made in respect of an opposition unless such a decision is appealed/challenged.

The ministerial decision has been published in the Official Gazette and become effective on the date of its issuance.
