Jordan IPRs Protection Division Apprehends Infringers of Famous Trademarks

AMMAN – The Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) Protection Division at the Criminal Investigation Department apprehended a number of violators of the Trademarks Law along with commercial fraud practitioners who had affixed and sewn famous global trademark labels to clothing articles manufactured by them without the right to use these trademarks, according to ag-IP-news Agency.

According to Major Mohammed Al-Khatib, the media spokesperson of the Public Security Directorate, the Intellectual Property Rights Protection Division had followed up on information on the existence of sports clothing carrying international trademarks, which is being manufactured locally at a sewing workshop.

He explained that when the workshop was inspected via legal methods, a computer for printing trademark labels was seized, along with thirty thousand fabric and paper labels for different trademarks and over 850 clothing articles that had those marks stitched on.

Major Al-Khatib pointed out that these products may be sold on the basis that they are by a franchise from the original trademark owners at high prices. Thus the consumer would fall prey to commercial fraud and obtain a product that does not enjoy the famous quality of the said trademark.

He added that all commercial fraud practices and violations of IPRs protection laws for any product subject to those laws is dealt with professionally by the Division, in coordination with the other official parties to preserve the consumer’s right to acquire a high-quality product and to protect the right of the original product owner from counterfeiting and damages.

The media spokesperson called on citizens to report on any suspicious trademarks to prevent the circulation of fraudulent products which harms the investment environment and national economy.
