Oman Clarifies TM Registration and Renewal Procedure

MUSCAT – The Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) office in Oman received on February 14, 2009 a notification from the Directorate General of Commerce at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in respect of Article 37/A of the new Omani Industrial Property Law.
According to the notification, it is necessary to specify the list of goods/services at the time of filing for a registration of a trademark to avoid any opposition that might take place; the same also applies when renewing a trademark.
The Sultanate of Oman is a member of the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks. The Government of the Sultanate of Oman deposited on July 16, 2007, its instrument of accession to the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks, adopted in Madrid on June 27, 1989 (“Madrid Protocol (1989)”).
