IPA Discusses Agreements with Google to Publish Books Electronically

CAIRO – Ibrahim El Moallem, vice president of the International Publishers Association (IPA), announced on January 14, 2009 that the Association will soon discuss agreements with Google to publish books electronically in order to safeguard authors’ and publishers’ rights.
In addition, agreements will set standards for e-publishing, developing and improving the level of school curriculum and specifying international standards that aim at upgrading the level of education.
According to Egyptian newspaper Seventh Day, El Moallem added that the Association, in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will specify the general principles concerning freedom of publishing, freedom of expression and the protection of IPRs.
The IPA is an international industry federation representing all aspects of book and journal publishing.
