CARACAS - Venezuela's Intellectual Property (IP) Registrar has stopped applying the provisions of Decision No. 486 and as of September 17, 2008, Venezuela has re-implemented the 1955 Industrial Property Law, according to De Sola Pate & Brown Attorneys & Consultants.
The Venezuelan Trademark Office published on September 17, 2008 a notice stipulating that in as much as Venezuela is no longer a member of the Andean Pact, the Andean Community Decision No. 486 cannot be applied and as of the said date Intellectual Property matters in Venezuela are regulated by the old Law of 1955.
According to Wikipedia, the Andean Community (Spanish: ''Comunidad Andina, CAN) is a trade bloc comprising the South American countries of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. The trade bloc was called the Andean Pact until 1996 and came into existence with the signing of the Cartagena Agreement in 1969. Venezuela joined the Pact in 1973.
Venezuela left the Andean Pact on December 22, 2006.
