AMMAN - The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) held a seminar on the “Introduction of new Generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs)” on October 14, 2008, at the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Business Forum/ Talal Abu Ghazaleh College of Business (TAG-College) headquarters.
Manager of Regional Relations/ Middle East, Global Partnerships at ICANN Baher Esmat said that the ICANN community has been working for the last years on developing the policy process for introducing new gTLDs.
“I believe that such an expansion will open the door for more people to access the web all over the world,” Esmat told ag-IP-news Agency.
Introducing new gTLDs is central to fostering choice and competition in domain registration services, as such is significant to the promotion of ICANN's core values.
At the same time, expanding the gTLDs space will inevitably create a new window for businesses to innovate and may as well lead to new trends in the domain name industry.
