AMMAN - Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org) introduced the first Arabic electronic Encyclopedia (TAG-PEDIA) during its participation at GITEX Technology Week, the region’s largest information and communication technology exhibition which was held in Dubai October 19-23, 2008.
TAG-PEDIA is the first initiative of its kind that targets Arab academics, scholars and readers, and provides them with general knowledge and sciences from an Arabic cultural, historical, and educational perspective.
It aims at founding a free-access database that delivers a broad variety of knowledge in all humanitarian sciences, with the highest standards of quality, integrity and accuracy. The Encyclopedia also gives the chance for readers/users to augment the content through contributing to the Encyclopedia without prejudicing the rights of its original author.
In order to preserve the authenticity and quality of all contributions, in addition to providing academic and scientific support to the Encyclopedia’s content, the Organization has drafted an agreement with the Association of Arab Universities.
The agreement aims at enhancing cooperation between the two parties in order to enrich the content, defining the references and sources of the incoming information whether they be institutions, universities, or research centers, and drawing up agreements with these parties in this regard.
On his part, TAG-Org Chairman and CEO Talal Abu-Ghazaleh said “Our group is very proud to cooperate with the Association of Arab Universities, due to the fact that both institutions are highly concerned in promoting knowledge and culture.”
“We are keen to maximally benefit from contemporary scientific and technological advancements, especially in the field of IT that has effectively transformed the world into a small electronic village where the sciences, cultures and civilizations meet,” he added.
“Through our expertise and qualifications at TAG-Org along with the Association of Arab Universities, we are working relentlessly on bringing TAG-PEDIA to light for its indispensable role in supporting Arab universities to raise generations capable of serving and developing the (Arab) nation,” Abu-Ghazaleh continued.
TAG-Org signed another agreement with the Emirates Internet Group to enrich TAG-PEDIA’s content with a whole set of innovative information and ensure the achievement of the Encyclopedia’s goals.
The 28th edition of the show, organized by the Dubai World Trade Center, was officially opened on October 19 welcoming more than 130,000 visitors and 3,300 companies from 83 countries.
