NEW DELHI - Patent attorney at Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) India Office Samita Kapoor joined another 12 trainees from Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and India in a three-week training program on Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) held in Tokyo, during the period of July 16 - August 7, 2008.
The (Japan Patent Office) JPO/IPRs Training for Advanced IP Practitioners was organized by the Tokyo-based Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS) and the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation (JIII) entrusted by the JPO and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
Expressing the need for organizing such training programs, Kapoor said, “This is one of the courses which brought IP practitioners, IP lawyers and patent attorneys under one roof to discuss and learn the latest techniques required for smooth utilization of the worldwide IPRs system.”
“The training aimed at deepening comprehensive understanding of IPRs-related issues through offering lectures and discussions on the management of IPRs,” she added.
The training focused on several key IP-related themes, including strategies, applications’ management, technology transfer, JPO IP system, prior art search as well as drafting.
Kapoor delivered a presentation on the Role of Prior Art Search in the Patent Management where she tackled the importance of conducting prior art search for a patent application, requirements for the same, prior art search strategies and the benefits for conducting prior art search.
As part of the training program, Kapoor visited the Japan Intellectual Property Association (JIPA) and the JPO where she got first hand exposure to the JPO IP system.
