MUSCAT - The Intellectual Property Department at the Omani Ministry of Commerce and Industry issued a communiqué on July 1, 2008, stipulating that all newly filed trademark applications should include a list of the specific goods and services for which registration is sought.
This stipulation is in compliance with Article 37 of the recently issued Industrial Property Rights Law No. 67 of 2008, and is in line with Oman’s accession to the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks.
The communiqué further stated that such requirement also applies to all pending trademark applications that have been filed but not yet registered. Accordingly, the list of goods and services for such applications has to be duly amended.
In this respect, Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) would like to inform its clients that the charges for amending the specification of goods and services before registration are $100.00 per trademark application.
