GENEVA - The Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Industrial Designs of 1999 entered into force in respect of Syria, on May 7, 2008, a communiqué released by the Directorate of Commercial and Industrial Property Protection at the Syrian Ministry of Economy and Trade stated.
The communiqué, which was published in the Commercial and Industrial Property Protection Gazette, issue No. 8 of April 2008, also revealed that Syria deposited its instrument of accession to the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement on February 7, 2008.
Under the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement, Syrian owners of industrial designs are given the possibility to have their designs protected in several countries by simply filing one application with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) International Bureau, in one language, with one set of fees in one currency (Swiss Francs).
