Industrial Property and Copyright Laws Promulgated in Oman

MUSCAT - His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said issued on May 12, 2008, Royal Decree No. 67/2008, promulgating the Industrial Property Rights Law.
According to Oman News Agency, the law cancels Royal Decrees Nos. 38/2000 (Trademarks Law), 39/2000 (Industrial Designs Law), 40/2000 (Geographical Indications Law), 41/2000 (Integrated Circuits Law), 82/2000 (Patents Law) and all that contradict provisions of the law.
Sultan Qaboos also issued, on May 4, 2008, Royal Decree No. 65/2008, promulgating the Law of Copyrights and Interlocution.
The law, which cancels the Copyrights Law and Interlocution issued by Royal Decree No. 37/2000, will be applicable to issues related to copyrights and interlocution.
Royal Decrees Nos. 67/2008 and 65/2008 will come into effect from the next day of their publication in the Official Gazette.
The Omani Minister of Commerce and Industry will issue the executive regulations for the Laws of Industrial Property Rights as well as Copyrights and Interlocution.
