Yemen to Accede to Berne Convention

GENEVA - The Government of the Republic of Yemen deposited, on April 14, 2008, its instrument of accession to the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works of 1979.

According to Berne Notification No. 254 released by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the said instrument of accession was also accompanied by the following declaration: “As allowed by Article I of the Special Provisions Regarding Developing Countries, under the Appendix to the Berne Convention, the Republic of Yemen will avail itself of both faculties provided for in Article II (Limitations on the Right of Translation) and Article III (Limitation on the Right of Reproduction) of the said Appendix.”

The Berne Convention will enter into force, with respect to Yemen, on July 14, 2008. On that date, Yemen will also become a member of the International Union for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works (Berne Union), founded by the Berne Convention.
