AGIP Turkey Takes Part in WIPO’s Madrid System Workshop

ANKARA - Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) took part in the National Workshop on the Madrid System, which was organized by the Turkish Patent Institute (TPI), in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in Ankara, April 17-18, 2008.
Experts and examiners from the TPI as well as legal advisors from WIPO discussed several issues related to the Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks, including its advantages, any recent developments related to it, registration procedures under it and the experience of the TPI regarding the System.
The Workshop also shed light on the national trademark system that is applicable in Turkey, as well as the protection offered to trademarks under the current Turkish Trademark Law No. 556 of 1995.
AGIP Turkey Office Manager, Afaf Shasha'a, said that the Workshop provided an opportunity to exchange information and experiences related to the Madrid System.
“The Workshop emphasized on the challenges the Turkish Patent Institute may face in implementing the Madrid System,” she stated.
The opening speeches were delivered by Dr. Yüksel Birinci, deputy president of the TPI, Sylvia Vincenti, legal advisor/ WIPO, and Dr. Yavuz Cabbar, deputy secretary of Industry and Commerce in Turkey.
