Rospatent and EAPO to Use the Russian Version of the International Patent Classification

MOSCOW - The Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks (Rospatent) and the Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO) have signed, on February 15, 2008, a Protocol for technical cooperation regarding the Eighth Edition of the International Patent Classification.

According to EAPO and RuPTO, the Protocol aims at expanding the use of the Russian version of the International Patent Classification with the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries collaboration.

The Protocol grants the EAPO a right to use the Russian version of the Eighth Edition of the International Patent Classification, including basic and extended levels, in machine-readable form within EAPO intranet network while performing Eurasian patent examination and EAPO holdings reclassification.

The Protocol will also provide an access to the final versions of the Classification for the patent offices of Eurasian Patent Convention members for their internal use.
