MOSCOW - Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) is pleased to announce the expansion of its global platform through opening a new office in Moscow, to cater to the needs of its growing clientele around the world.
The office, which is fully operational, provides a full range of services related to the protection and enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs), including registration, renewal, licensing and litigation of trademarks, patents, industrial designs and models, copyrights and domain names.
The office is staffed by an experienced team of Intellectual Property (IP) and legal professionals and practitioners who are skilled in all aspects of IPRs registration and enforcement in Russia.
Commenting on this key achievement, AGIP Regional Office Executive Director Charles Sha’ban said, “The Moscow office will provide a contact point for Russian clients protecting their own Intellectual Property in the rest of the world.”
“It will also create new opportunities for AGIP in Russia’s challenging environment and put us in close proximity to our clients and associates,” he added.
Russia has recently been exerting enormous efforts to bring its IP regime in line with international standards. Several laws that govern IPRs, including trademarks, patents, copyrights, software programs and databases have gone through significant amendments.
In addition, Russia is a signatory to major IP international treaties, including the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property, the Patent Cooperation Treaty, the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works as well as the Madrid Agreement and Protocol Concerning the International Registration of Marks.
According to the latest statistics released by the Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks (Rospatent), 123882 inventions, 33033 utility models, 14621 industrial designs, 197055 trademarks (without Madrid system based trademarks), 65 well-known trademarks, 100 appellations of origin, 15316 computer software programs, 1478 databases and 176 topographies of integrated circuits have been registered in Russia by the beginning of 2007.
Furthermore, the Chamber of Patent Disputes has about 2500 legal matters for different IP objects, while Rospatent takes part in over than 600 court trials annually. There are about 1300 patent and trademark attorneys registered in Russia.
