Syria Accedes to the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement

GENEVA - The Government of the Syrian Arab Republic deposited, on February 7, 2008, its instrument of accession to the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Industrial Designs.

According to Hague Notification No. 84 which was published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Geneva Act will enter into force in respect of the Syrian Arab Republic, on May 7, 2008.

A Legislative Decree under No. 404 was issued on September 26, 2007, by the Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, approving Syria’s accession to the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement.

Under such agreement, Syrian owners of industrial designs are given the possibility to have their designs protected in several countries by simply filing one application with the WIPO International Bureau, in one language, with one set of fees in one currency (Swiss Francs).
