BAGHDAD - The Iraqi Trademark Office has started, with effect from February 14, 2008, issuing the first batch of the long-anticipated registration certificates for trademark applications that were pending due to the stipulation of the Israeli Boycott Declaration.
As it is no longer required to submit an Israeli Boycott Declaration in respect of trademark applications filed in Iraq, the Office has started, since last July, the examination of the backlogged pending applications.
The Office issued two Official Gazettes, in October and December 2007, in which a large number of these pending applications were published for public opposition.
Upon the expiry of the opposition grace period stated in the Official Gazette No. 472 on January 7, 2008, the Office has decided to issue the relevant certificates of registration for all trademarks to which no opposition has been made.
