Paraguay Introduces Trademark Registration with Customs
14-Jan-2008
ASUNCIÓN/PARAGUAY - The General Director of the Customs Administration has recently announced the implementation of the registration of trademarks and other Intellectual Property Rights with the Customs Department in Paraguay, according to Berkemeyer Attorneys and Counselors.
The registration will allow the inclusion of said rights by recording them within the ‘Sofia System’ (the Paraguayan Informatics Customs Control System), which will proceed to retain the merchandise when no matches are found with the legal right holder of a trademark.
This registration procedure with the Customs comes in line with the implementation of the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) ratified by Paraguay.
Interested parties may proceed with the registration starting January 15 at the Registration Department of the Customs.
