New IP Directorate in Palestine

01-May-2004

Palestinian Minister of National Economy declared that the Ministry has recently undergone a restructuring process. A new directorate entitled the General Directorate of Intellectual Property (GDIP) has been established.

The establishment of the GDIP emphasizes the Palestinian commitment to protect intellectual property rights and keenness to maintain in conformity with the relevant international laws.

The new restructuring came following the merger of three ministries: Ministry of Trade and Economy, Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Supply.

It is worth noting that Intellectual Property in the Palestinian Territories, the West Bank and Gaza Strip has separate IP jurisdictions. The Palestinian Trademark and Patent Laws of 1938 are adopted in the Gaza Strip while the Jordanian Laws are adopted in the West Bank. For obtaining full protection all over the Palestinian Territories, filing is recommend in both jurisdictions.
