Formalities of Powers of Attorney Simplified in Syria

06-Dec-2007

DAMASCUS - The Syrian Trademark Office has recently issued regulations stating that each application – including single-class applications of the same trademark - should be supported with a separate notarized Power of Attorney.

In case of a trademark application in a single class or a national patent application, one notarized Power of Attorney would be sufficient.

In order to facilitate and simplify this procedure, Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) advises its clients to submit a Power of Attorney that is both notarized and legalized up to the Syrian Consulate.

By doing so, AGIP can deposit this document at the Notary Public in Damascus, and extract a certified copy thereof locally each time it receives instructions to attend to new applications in Syria. Consequently, it will no longer be necessary to send new Powers of Attorney for any future applications.
