New Industrial Property Law Takes Effect in Cape Verde

AMMAN - A new Industrial Property Law under No. 4 of 2007, entered into force in Cape Verde with effect from August 21, 2007, according to combined news agencies.

The law, which is in harmony with the international regulations in the field of industrial property, namely the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS), was published in the Official Gazette, Series I, No. 31 of August 20, 2007.

The new law regulates patents of invention, utility models, industrial designs and models, topographies of semiconductor products, trade and service marks, trade names or emblems, logotypes, appellations of origin and geographical indications, as well as unfair competition.

In addition, the International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purposes of the Registration of Marks under the Nice Agreement (Eighth Edition) was adopted in Cape Verde on August 27, 2007, as per Decree No. 22 of 2007.

The decree was published in the Official Gazette, Series I, No. 32 and it entered into force on August 27.
