The combination of expertise in intellectual property, public accounting and management consulting has made the firms that are members of TAGI the right address to Arab governments seeking advisors in the above fields. Bahrain can be cited as a good example.
For the purposes of identifying all amended and new intellectual property laws along with their new established and modified implementing regulations, AGIP’s legal advisors and IP experts conducted a revision, analysis and interpretation of all Bahraini laws, regulations and procedures related to trademarks, patents and industrial designs and models, geographical indications, designs of integrated circuits, plant varieties and trade secrets.
Under the supervision of the Bahraini Directorate of Agencies & Industrial Property (attached to the Ministry of Commerce & Industry), AGIP has prepared an Intellectual Property Implementing Regulations and Guide. The purpose of the project is to develop bilingual IP implementing regulations and assist in designing and preparing computerized applications for the industrial property laws.
The project also sought to assist the Bahraini IT Department in developing the appropriate software for their industrial property database and to recommend the best-adopted programs in the advanced
countries in this field.
The objectives were successfully achieved through interviewing personnel of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry to ensure that their concerns and requirements are adequately addressed. Moreover, AGIP’s
experts and advisors conducted an analytical study of IP current practices in Bahrain compared to the standard world practices on similar systems.
Recommendations were made as to what steps are necessary to approach world standards on IP issues. In addition, AGIP has developed a content for the proposed deployment on the website for the various aspects of IP.
A lucidly tangible fruit of the project is a simple and clear bilingual IP Laws Guide that offers the user a general view of the various issues of IP protection such as explanation of trademarks, patents and utility models, industrial drawings and designs, geographical indications, designs of integrated circuits, plant
varieties and trade secrets, registration procedures, post registration procedures and post registration protection (infringement) .
