NEW DELHI - The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) announced that it has formed a National Committee of Intellectual Property (IP) Owners which has been established to address the comprehensive needs of IP Owners in India.
According to a press release by the CII, the initiative emerges as a nodal committee which would strive towards making India a truly 'IP Savvy Country' encompassing Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) Policy, Protection and Enforcement issues in tandem with CII National theme for 2007-08 - Building People, Building India.
CII National Committee of IP Owners met for the first time on August 16, 2007, under the Chairmanship of the Managing Director, IBM India Ltd. Shanker Annaswamy.
This Committee has been constituted with the support of captains of Indian IPRs initiatives from more than 50 top class industries, law firms, international agencies, academic institutes and policy making bodies.
The National Committee will be committed to serving the interests of all IP Owners in all industries and fields of technology.
The National Committee of IP Owners will work closely with the Indian Department of Industry Policy and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in order to advocate effective and affordable IP ownership rights and concentrate on supporting members' interests relating to legislative and international issues, analyze current IP issues, and enable the capacity building initiatives.
