AGIP Participates in ‘Anti-Counterfeiting and Piracy Conference’ in Mumbai

MUMBAI - In cooperation with the International Trademark Association (INTA), the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organized the International Conference on Anti-Counterfeiting and Piracy August 23-24, 2007, at the Taj Mahal Hotel, Colaba, Mumbai.

The conference mostly focused on global issues pertaining to counterfeiting and piracy, best practices concerning the protection of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs), enforcement and anti-counterfeiting initiatives as well as active awareness building on IPRs.

“The conference provided a platform to tackle the issue of counterfeiting and piracy and its serious impact on the Indian economy,” AGIP India Office Manager, Khalid Al-Khalidi, said.

The Conference targeted a large segment of the Indian industry sector with a focus on, Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), auto sector, drugs and pharmaceuticals, IT/software and music and entertainment.

“I am confident that it will pave the way for coordination and cooperation between the private and public sectors to better fight this menace,” he added.

The Conference brought together eminent speakers from the World Health Organization (WHO), INTA, US Embassy in New Delhi, as well as representatives from well-known companies, including Proctor & Gamble, Pfizer Inc, Hewlett Packard/India, Intel Technology, Mars Incorporated/Australia, in addition to officials from the Indian Trademark Registry and the Patent Office and a number of attorneys and advocates.

In conjunction with the Conference, Al-Khalidi also joined the INTA in a cocktail reception where the Association announced the opening of its liaison office in Mumbai.

Al-Khalidi discussed with INTA representatives the possibility of expanding and deepening bilateral cooperation in the field of IP.
