DAMASCUS - Official charges for the registration, maintenance and publication of trademarks and industrial drawings and designs have substantially been increased in Syria, by virtue of Law No. 8 of 2007, for Distinctive Marks, Geographical Indications and Industrial Drawings and Designs which entered into force on April 12, 2007.
In many instances, the charges have more than doubled. For example, official charges for filing a trademark application have increased from $60 to $341; renewal charges have increased to $210 and fine for late renewal to $60.
A regularized publication fee of $30 is now added to the renewal, recordal of assignment, recordal of merger, cancellation as well as change of name and address.
The new rates will be applicable on all new trademark and industrial drawing and design applications filed with the Syrian Ministry of Economy and Trade as of April 12, 2007.
