Oman to Accede to IPRs Treaties and Conventions

MUSCAT - His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said issued Sultanic Decree No. 37 of 2007, on April 23, 2007, stipulating Oman’s accession to a number of treaties and conventions related to Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs).

As per the Decree, which was published in the Official Gazette on the same date, the Sultante of Oman is to accede to the following treaties and conventions:

- Brussels Convention Relating to the Distribution of Program-Carrying Signals Transmitted by Satellite of 1974;

- Budapest Treaty on the International Recognition of the Deposit of Microorganisms for the Purposes of Patent Procedure of 1977;

- Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks of 1989;

- International Convention for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) of 1991;

- Trademark Law Treaty of 1994;

- Patent Law Treaty of 2000.

As stated in the Decree, Oman’s concerned authorities will now have to deposit the instruments of ratification to the above-mentioned conventions.
