AGIP India Office Participates in a Specialized Course on Patents & IP Services

NEW DELHI - Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) India office team is currently taking part in a six-week course entitled, “Certificate Course on Patents and Intellectual Property (IP) Services,” with focus on prior art search, international patenting and patent processes.

Organized by the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IITD), in collaboration with the Indian Global Institute of Intellectual Property, the March 12-April 20 course is a unique international program on developing skill competencies in the area of patent processes.

Held at the Department of Management Studies, Vishwakarma Bhawan, IITD, the course aims to develop the caliber of participants so as to enable them to serve global customers in the field of IP, in particular patents such as, conducting international patent search, drafting patent claims and patent applications, preparing prosecutions before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the European Patent Office (EPO) and the Indian patent offices.

Stressing the need for organizing such courses in India and worldwide, AGIP India office Manager, Khalid Al-Khalidi said, “The course is very specialized, as it addresses patent portfolio management with an emphasis on providing a practical experience on patent claims drafting, international prior art search, patent procedures and processes.”

During the course, Al-Khalidi delivered a presentation on Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) in Jordan, explaining how they developed historically, the role of the Industrial Property Protection Directorate in protecting patents and other IPRs, in addition to describing the whole procedures of filing patent applications up to granting.

Members of AGIP India office presented an overview of the IP practices and filing procedures in other Arab countries, the economic basis of IP and the relevance of competition policy in regulating the market dominance of IPR holders.
