WIPO and ASIP Hold ‘Copyrights and Related Rights’ Course in Bahrain

MANAMA - The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Arab Society for Intellectual Property (ASIP), in cooperation with Bahrain’s Ministry of Information, are organizing the “Copyrights and Related Rights” course March 19-29, 2007 in Manama/Bahrain.

This course is the third in a four-course program entitled the Arab Certified Intellectual Property Practitioner (ACIPP) offered by ASIP.

ACIPP is a professional Arabic program offering advanced teaching and training for IP practitioners. The only certification of its kind in the region, ACIPP provides professionals and students with a comprehensive program covering many aspects of IP. ACIPP program’s four courses are: Introduction to Intellectual Property, Trademarks and Unfair Competition, Copyrights and Related Rights and Patents of Inventions and Trade Secrets.

During the “Copyrights and Related Rights” course, participants will be introduced to different concepts such as; protected works, unprotected works, rights conferred, exploitation of rights and copyright protection periods. In addition, they will be provided with practical training on various case studies.

“This cooperation is part of ASIP’s plan to launch the ACIPP program in the Arab region where the Kingdom of Bahrain is the first country to organize such a course under the supervision of high-quality academics and experts,” ASIP Manager Mu’tasem Dmour pointed out.

Chaired by Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, ASIP is a non-profit organization working in the development and modernization of Intellectual Property laws and systems in the Arab region through various means of awareness and education.
