GENEVA - Vietnam became the World Trade Organization's 150th member on January 11, 2007, after it ratified its membership agreement on December 12, 2006.
According to a press release by the WTO, the membership agreement was approved by the General Council on November 7, 2006.
Vietnam’s commitments in joining the WTO include wide-ranging reforms to its economy and substantial reduction in tariffs. Vietnam has already passed more than 80 laws to fully implement its commitments, including substantial changes to its regime on Intellectual Property Rights protection.
