BEIJING - China is considering joining two treaties of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in a bid to curb Internet piracy, according to the official state news agency, Xinhua.
The two treaties, the WIPO Copyright Treaty and the WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty, were submitted last month to China's top legislature, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, for consideration.
"To join the treaties could enable us to improve our own Internet copyright protection campaign by adopting international advanced experience," Director of the National Copyright Administration Long Xinmin said.
The two treaties, which went into effect in 2002, are mainly focused on digital copyright protection.
