GENEVA - The government of the Kingdom of Morocco deposited, on Sept. 8, 2006, its instrument of accession to the International Convention for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants.
According to a press release by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the convention will enter into force, with respect to Morocco, on Oct. 8, 2006. On that date, Morocco will become a member of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV), an intergovernmental organization with headquarters in Geneva (Switzerland) founded by the said convention.
The convention aims to provide and promote an effective system of plant variety protection, with the aim of encouraging the development of new varieties of plants, for the benefit of society.
