The Boycott of Israel in View

01-Apr-2002

In a press conference, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Amr Mousa, considered that there is a need to activate the boycott of Israel in response to the Israeli operation against the headquarters of the Palestinian President Yaser Arafat. Mousa added that the repressive practices of Israel makes such a stand a necessary step.

It is worth remembering that the boycott was a result of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Regulations were issued to prohibit natural persons and corporate bodies from dealing, directly or indirectly,
with persons or establishments domiciled in Israel or holding Israeli nationality or employed to serve the objectives or interests of Israel either in Israel or abroad.

The provisions of the said prohibition extend to the various aspects of industrial property including registration (in Arab countries) of patents, trademarks, industrial designs and other appurtenant filings
to renew registrations or record assignments or licenses in the Arab countries. Persons or establishments who violate the boycott law are entered on the boycott list which renders any transaction with them illegal and subject to punishment.
