AGIP UAE Delivers Trademark Protection Workshop for Dubai Customs

DUBAI - Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) UAE Office recently contributed to Dubai Customs’ ongoing efforts to safeguard intellectual property by delivering a practical workshop on trademark protection and counterfeit detection. The session, conducted under the auspices of Dubai Customs, provided hands-on guidance to customs officers on distinguishing genuine products from counterfeits and identifying key indicators at the border.

In the lead session, AGIP represented two trademark owners and shared actionable information to help customs personnel assess products suspected of infringing trademark rights. The training covered identifying features, product presentation details, and other practical indicators that can support examination and decision-making at points of entry. Officers were guided on how to apply current, product-specific knowledge to enhance accuracy and speed in border checks.

The workshop also featured an interactive discussion on the broader challenges of detecting counterfeit goods and the critical role of ongoing cooperation between rights holders and customs authorities. Participants explored how collaboration enables access to up-to-date information about brands, product lines, and potential infringement risks, ultimately contributing to more effective enforcement at the border.

The workshop underscores Dubai Customs’ commitment to protecting consumers, brands, and legitimate commerce by preventing the import and distribution of counterfeit goods. It also highlights AGIP’s role in advising rights holders on effective enforcement and risk management strategies across the region.
