Apostille Convention Implementation in Algeria

ALGERIA — On November 5, 2025, Algeria officially acceded to the Hague Apostille Convention (the 1961 Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents). As a result, the Convention went into effect for Algeria on July 9, 2026. This accession marks a significant development as it allows public documents to be authenticated through a single apostille, eliminating the need for the traditional consular legalization process. 

This milestone is expected to simplify cross-border document authentication procedures and significantly reduce the time and expenses associated with obtaining legalized documents. However, some domestic authorities may still follow the old procedures, so document submitters should continue to confirm requirements for their specific case. This is especially important for filings with INAPI and the Ministry of Industry, where notarization and legalization may still be requested.
