Libya Resumes Electronic Publication of Trademarks: 2026 Electronic Trademark Gazette Published
21-Jul-2026 TRIPOLI - Libya’s Commercial Registry Authority has resumed the electronic publication of trademarks with the release of the 2026 Electronic Trademark Gazette on May 24, 2026. The Gazette covers applications numbered 55261 to 57597 and reactivates a 30-day opposition window under Libyan trademark law, including an electronic route for submitting oppositions during the publication period.
The restart marks a key step in modernizing and digitizing Libya’s trademark prosecution system after an extended suspension of publications. For the first time since the interruption, third parties can review newly published trademark applications on the Authority’s official website and file oppositions electronically within the statutory 30-day timeframe. This updated system is expected to improve accessibility and efficiency for rights holders, applicants, and agents operating in Libya.
Despite this positive development, there are still important practical questions that remain unanswered. Currently, there is no published schedule for when applications filed before number 55261 will be published, and the timing for the next issue of the Electronic Trademark Gazette is unclear. These backlogged applications could impact a significant number of filings, causing uncertainty for applicants and third parties monitoring the register for potential conflicts.
Additionally, a second Gazette was released on June 29, 2026. Notably, the published trademarks are mainly for local applicants' new applications.
