AGIP Champions IP for Innovation, Sports and Entrepreneurship on World Intellectual Property Day 2026
26-Apr-2026 Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) celebrated World Intellectual Property Day 2026 by reaffirming its leadership in shaping IP policy, protection, and commercialization across the Middle East and beyond. Emphasizing the role of intellectual property in driving innovation, economic growth, and sustainable development, AGIP highlighted recent initiatives that boost IP awareness and enforcement in emerging sectors, including sports and higher education.
AGIP reiterated its commitment to supporting knowledge-based economies by providing capacity building, thought leadership, and practical IP services that assist governments, enterprises, startups, and creators in protecting and monetizing their innovations.
As part of World IP Day activities, AGIP supported the second edition of a joint UAE initiative led by the UAE’s Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Sports to promote respect for intellectual property rights within the sports sector. The campaign’s theme, “Respecting IP Rights as We Respect the Rules of the Game,” drew a direct parallel between fair play on the field and respect for legal rights of it. AGIP’s involvement provided focused guidance on protecting sports-related brands and athlete endorsements, addressing counterfeiting risks, and strengthening licensing frameworks that safeguard the revenue streams essential to clubs, federations, and individual athletes.
AGIP also advanced IP education through an awareness session at Amman Arab University in Jordan. Presented by Dr. Nida’a Goussous, senior legal counsel at AGIP, the session targeted entrepreneurs and university stakeholders and covered enhanced IP enforcement strategies and commercialization routes for intangible assets. Topics included practical steps for licensing, franchising, and forming strategic partnerships to turn innovations into marketable products and services. The session underlined the importance of early IP planning for startups and the value of IP literacy in university ecosystems that aim to spin research into economic impact.
By working with public authorities, sports bodies, universities, and private-sector innovators, we help create an environment where creativity can be protected, rewarded, and scaled, from the classroom to the stadium and into global markets.
