Qatar Opens All Nice Classification Classes for Trade Mark Registration, Including Class 33

05-Apr-2026

DOHA - The Trademark Office has confirmed that, following Qatar’s adoption of the 13th edition of the Nice Classification, all classes under the updated classification are now open for trademark registration in Qatar. Accordingly, this would be likely to mean that Class 33 will be accepted for registration, removing the previous limitation on filings in this class.

This change aligns Qatar’s trademark system more closely with international practices and gives rights holders clearer scope to protect beverage-related brands. The availability of Class 33 is expected to reduce the reliance on workaround filing strategies previously used to secure protection for certain drink products.

Therefore, we will be pleased to assist you review your filing strategies, specification wording, and any applicable regulatory considerations under Qatari law. Companies with existing registrations may also consider monitoring incoming filings to detect potential conflicts or opportunistic applications.

Finally, as this update would make Qatar join Bahrain and Oman within the GCC region to allow for class 33 trademark registration, we advise our clients who are in the alcoholic beverage business, to consider filing their house mark in Qatar, and upon acceptance, they may consider filing the rest of their trademarks.
