The Syrian Patent Law No.18 has been issued in the year of 2012 regarding the granting of patents Inventions. The law prescribes for exanimation of patent applications, oppositional procedures and publications for accepted and registered paten/patent application. After filing the patent application supported with the required papers and documentation, it will be forwarded to specialized authority for examination, which opines to the Patent Office whether to accept or reject the invention.An application takes approximately 1-2 years until it is granted a patent (smooth application). Treaties• Syria has been a member of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) since June 26, 2003.It is possible to file a national application of PCT international application in Syria by the 31-month period.• Syria has been a member of Paris Treaty for convention applications.It is possible to file a national application under Paris Convention within one year as from the priority date
