CAIRO - The Egyptian Trade Registry Department issued on August 15 circular No. 13 of 2005 with respect to the policies and procedures of filing trademark applications in Egypt.
The circular, a copy of which has been obtained by Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP), seeks to ensure that the provisions of the Egyptian Intellectual Property Rights Law No. 82 of 2002 and its implementing regulations are in harmony with the procedures applied in the process of trademark registration in Egypt.
The first policy states that filing a new trademark application should be accompanied by a Power of Attorney legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate. The other policy is related to the certified Certificate of Incorporation and the Certificate of the Priority Claim; such documents should be provided within six months as of the date of filing the application for registration. Failing to do so shall render the application null and void.
