Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property Celebrates Milestone with 20,000th Patent Granted
15-Jul-2025 RIYADH – The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) proudly announces the granting of its 20,000th patent, marking a significant milestone in the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its intellectual property framework and foster a dynamic innovation ecosystem.
Since the establishment of Saudi Arabia’s patent system in 1989 and the issuance of its first patent in 1995, the country has witnessed steady growth in patent grants. The 10,000th patent was reached in 2022, and in less than three years, that number has doubled. This rapid increase reflects improvements in regulatory processes, more efficient patent examination, and strong national support for innovation.
Domestic innovation is also thriving. In the first quarter of 2025, 345 patents were granted to Saudi nationals, representing a 16 percent rise compared to the same period in 2024. This growth demonstrates the Kingdom’s expanding dedication to protecting and commercializing intellectual property assets.
The issuance of the 20,000th patent is a key indicator of Saudi Arabia’s ambition to become a regional hub for innovation and a leader in economic transformation driven by knowledge and technology.
