Qatar elected to Chair the Technical Committee for Intellectual Property at the Arab League
10-Mar-2023 CAIRO - The State of Qatar has been elected to chair the Technical Committee for Intellectual Property at the Arab League, for a period of two years. This came during the 10th meeting of the Committee, which was held at the headquarters of the League of Arab States’ General Secretariat in Cairo, a press release by the Qatari Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
The Technical Committee for Intellectual Property is concerned with setting rules for cooperation between Arab countries in the field of intellectual property rights protection. With the Committee’s central role being the enhancement of Arab awareness regarding intellectual property issues, all while encouraging innovation.
The election of the State of Qatar to chair the Technical Committee reflects the tremendous interest that Qatar attaches to intellectual property issues. The Committee members have entrusted Qatar with this position in recognition of the progress it has made in this strategic field.
During the meeting, the Committee reviewed the recommendations of its 9th meeting, as well as the implementation of the recommendations of the sub-committees on industrial property and copyright and related rights.
The Committee also agreed in establishing a regional network of technology and innovation support centres, all while discussing mechanisms to implement statistics and specific indicators of the reality of industrial property in Arab countries.
