Implementation of the Recordation of IPRs for Imports in Kenya

NAIROBI – Following the extension of the deadline for the beginning of the recordation of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) for imports in Kenya from July 1, 2022, to January 1, 2023, the Anti-Counterfeit Authority of Kenya (ACA) issued a public notice No. 3/2022 reiterating that the mandatory recordal of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) for imports will be implemented on January 1, 2023.

The recordation process covers the application for recordation, renewal of recordation, and declaration of IPRs for goods imported into Kenya. 

As the implementation deadline is approaching, it is advisable to submit the recordal application as soon as possible with the ACA, bearing in mind that the ACA will approve or reject the application within 30 days from the date of submission or filing.
