Iraq Becomes the 155th Country to Join the PCT

BAGHDAD - The Government of Iraq deposited its instrument of accession to the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) with WIPO’s Director General on January 31, 2022, making Iraq the 155th member of the PCT Union. The PCT will enter into force for Iraq on April 30, 2022.

As from that date, inventors in Iraq can file patent applications under the PCT to protect their patents in PCT contracting states, which will be less costly for applicants seeking to obtain patent protection internationally. On the other hand, foreign inventors can use the PCT system to protect their patents in Iraq.
