The Republic of Tunisia deposited its instrument of accession to the UPOV Convention (1991 Act) on the 31st of July 2003, becoming thus the fifty-three member of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV).
UPOV is an intergovernmental organization based in Geneva and cooperates in administrative matters with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
The purpose of UPOV Convention is to encourage the development of new varieties of plants by granting breeders an intellectual property right on the basis of a set of clearly defined principles.
